Help - Roaming

  • Q.Can I roam automatically or do I need to have my phone set up for Roaming?
    • A:You can roam automatically with our Freedom Accounts and Red Plans and no set up is required.
  • Q.How do I turn off my Roaming?
    • A:Before you go overseas you can turn off your Roaming by calling Customer Care Centre on 111 from your Vodafone number or 800 7111 from any other number whilst in Qatar. If you are already overseas you can turn off your Roaming by calling +974 7700 7111.
  • Q.Can I only turn off my Data Roaming and still be able to make and receive calls?
    • A:Yes, if you are using a smart phone, you can just turn off your Data Roaming and still make and receive calls; for example for BlackBerry and iPhone users, you can do this by following these steps:
      • BlackBerry: menu>manage connection>mobile network options>data service while roaming>off
      • iPhone: menu>settings>network>data roaming>off
  • Q.What countries can I Roam in?
  • Q.Where can I roam on my Freedom account?
    • A:Where you can roam depends on whether you have a Freedom Account with No Limit or a Freedom Account with a Monthly Limit.
On a Freedom Account with No Limit, you have the flexibility to roam on over 465 networks around the globe. You’ll be charged in real time on most networks, while on other networks there may be a delay. This means it may be a few days before your account reflects the calls you’ve made while roaming. Should your Freedom Account with No Limit payment fail you will only have access to Red Roaming Zones (detailed below) until you make a successful payment. When you make a successful payment you will once again have the flexibility to roam on all 465 networks.
With a Freedom Account Monthly Limit, all your calls will be automatically deducted from your balance, to make sure you never go over your limit for the month. You will have access to all the Red Roaming Zones. Please view the list of destinations where you can roam in: http://www.vodafone.com.qa/go/en/getstarted/roaming/roamingzones
  • Q.How do I Reload while I’m abroad?

  • Q.Can I check my balance while I’m roaming?
    • A:Yes, you can check your balance at any time by dialling *129# from your Vodafone mobile. Please note that this is dependent on the network you are roaming on.
  • Q.Can I access my voicemail while overseas?
  • Q.Is it free to receive SMS?
    • A:Yes, it is free to receive SMS whilst roaming.
  • Q.Who do I call to sort out problems while I’m abroad?

  • Q.Why can’t I use Data Roaming on my iPhone?
    • A:Some iPhone users have found that the APN does not always automatically update. This is the ‘Access Point Name’, which identifies the IP network the device needs to connect to. We’re working with Apple on a permanent solution but in the meantime you can manually reset your APN settings. In your phone menu, select Settings/General/Network/Mobile data network. The APN needs to be web.vodafone.com.qa.
  • Q.Why can’t I connect to all the networks that are visible on my phone?
    • A:When you switch on your phone in a new country there may be many visible networks. Since Vodafone Qatar does not have a contract with all networks in all countries, you will only be able to connect to a partner network. If you keep your phone set to automatic network selection your phone will select our partner network when you arrive. You’ll find at least one network in every destination mentioned in our Footprint at www.vodafone.com.qa/roaming. We’re working at increasing this footprint every day.
  • Q.What should I do if I have trouble connecting to a network?
    • A:If your phone is not connecting automatically to a local network when you switch it on, you’ll need to check its settings are correct. Here are the steps you should take to get up and running.
      • Make sure your network settings are set to Automatic Network Selection.
      • Ensure you are in an area with good network coverage.
      • Allow your device up to five minutes after you turn it on for the first time to perform the network registration.
      • Your device should now automatically connect to the local network.

If after five minutes the device is not showing the name of the network and the coverage signal, you’ll need to use the Vodafone Services Roaming Menu. Here’s how to find it on your mobile:
      DeviceMenu Option
Android basedMenu > SIM toolkit > Roaming
      BlackBerry®Menu > Setup > Vodafone Services > Roaming
iPadSettings > Cellular Data > Sim Apps > Roaming

      • Enter this menu, select Roaming and then select OK.
      • Go to Start Roaming 1 and select OK. Your device will switch to its Roaming profile. It may take up to two minutes to perform a Network Location Update.
      • When successfully connected, your device will show the name of the network and your coverage signal.
      • If that doesn’t work try repeating the steps above, selecting Start Roaming 2 instead.
      • If your device still does not connect to a network, please switch it to 2G mode and repeat the steps above. If that’s doesn’t fix the problem, please contact our Customer Care Team on +974 7700 7111 or email us at care.qa@vodafone.com
